ArtCraft vs ComfyUI: Which One Is Right for You?
Both are open source and both are about control, but they approach it from opposite directions: ArtCraft with a visual 2D and 3D stage, ComfyUI with node graphs.

ArtCraft and ComfyUI are the two best-known open-source answers to the same frustration: prompt boxes don't give artists enough control. They solve it in very different ways. ArtCraft lets you build the shot visually, placing cutouts, 3D meshes, and posed characters on a stage and framing the camera before a model renders it. ComfyUI lets you build the pipeline, wiring models, samplers, and processing steps together as a graph of nodes.
The short answer
Choose ArtCraft if you think like an artist or director and want frontier models with little setup. Choose ComfyUI if you think like a technical artist, want to run open models on your own GPU, or need custom, repeatable pipelines.

| Learning curve | Moderate | Steep |
| Best for | Composition, consistent characters, multi-shot scenes | Custom pipelines, open models, automation |
Ease of use
ArtCraft works like a creative app. You start with a prompt if you want, then refine with editing tools, a 2D canvas, or a 3D stage. Its official pitch is "the IDE for artists": many tools in one window, but each one behaves like something an artist already understands, such as layers, props, poses, and cameras. The getting started tutorial covers the basics in one sitting.
ComfyUI exposes how image generation actually works. A basic text-to-image workflow already involves loading a model, encoding the prompt, sampling, and decoding. That transparency is its superpower, but it takes time to learn. Comfy has added helpers such as community templates and Comfy Agent, which builds workflows from a description, yet you will still spend time debugging graphs and installing custom nodes.
How each one gives you control
The two tools control different things:
| You want to control… | ArtCraft | ComfyUI |
|---|---|---|
| Where objects sit in the frame | Place them on a 2D canvas or 3D stage | Masks, ControlNets, regional prompting nodes |
| A character's pose | Pose a mannequin; identity transfer applies your character | Pose ControlNets with a reference skeleton |
| Camera angle across shots | Move the camera in a consistent 3D location | Depth or 3D-based workflows, built by hand |
| Model parameters (sampler, steps, seeds) | Limited to what each model exposes | Every parameter of every step |
| Repeatable batch processing | Not the focus | A core strength, also via API |
ArtCraft is stronger at composition and continuity: see Image to Location and character posing. ComfyUI is stronger at process control, meaning exactly how an image is computed and post-processed.
Models
ArtCraft's catalog lists 62 hosted models across images, video, audio, 3D meshes, and worlds, including Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2, Seedream, Seedance 2.0, Kling, Veo, Hunyuan 3D, and Marble. You don't download anything; you pick a model and generate. See the live list on our models page.
ComfyUI shines with open-weight models you run yourself, along with LoRAs and fine-tunes from the community. Comfy Cloud adds 900+ preinstalled models, and Partner Nodes bring proprietary models such as Nano Banana Pro into workflows, paid with Comfy credits.
Pricing
Both apps are free to download. What you pay for is compute.
| ArtCraft | ComfyUI | |
|---|---|---|
| Software | Free | Free (Desktop) |
| Entry plan | Basic: $10/mo, or $8/mo billed yearly; 1,000 credits/month | Comfy Cloud Standard: $20/mo, or $16/mo billed yearly |
| Next tier | Pro: $35/mo, or $28/mo billed yearly | Comfy Cloud Creator: $35/mo, or $28/mo billed yearly |
| Run on your own hardware | No | Yes, free apart from your GPU and electricity |
| Bring your own keys | Yes, e.g. FAL keys, plus Grok, Midjourney, Sora, and World Labs accounts | BYOK for Runway and Google Gemini (Enterprise request) |
Prices were checked on the official ArtCraft pricing page and Comfy Cloud pricing page in October 2026. Comfy Cloud credits pay for GPU time and Partner Nodes; ArtCraft credits pay for model generations. Our ArtCraft pricing guide shows what 1,000 credits buy.
Note
If you already own a strong NVIDIA GPU and mainly use open models, ComfyUI on your own machine is the cheapest option by far. If you want frontier proprietary models like Seedance 2.0 or Nano Banana Pro, both tools charge for them.
Who should choose which
Choose ArtCraft if you:
- want to compose shots visually instead of wiring nodes,
- need consistent characters and locations across a sequence,
- want frontier image and video models without managing GPUs or model files,
- are an illustrator, filmmaker, or designer rather than a pipeline engineer.
Choose ComfyUI if you:
- want to run open models locally, offline, and for free,
- need custom LoRAs, fine-tunes, or community extensions,
- want reproducible pipelines and batch automation,
- enjoy tinkering with how generation works under the hood.
Using both
They are not mutually exclusive. A practical split: stage and render key frames in ArtCraft, where layout and camera control are easy, then bring the results into ComfyUI for specialized steps like upscaling, style transfer with LoRAs, or batch variations.
Verdict
ComfyUI is the more powerful engine; ArtCraft is the more approachable studio. If your bottleneck is getting the composition right, ArtCraft will save you hours. If your bottleneck is customizing how images are generated, nothing beats ComfyUI.

Frequently asked questions
Is ArtCraft easier to use than ComfyUI?
For most artists, yes. ArtCraft gives you a canvas and a 3D stage where you place objects, pose characters, and set the camera. ComfyUI asks you to connect nodes for models, samplers, and processing steps, which is more flexible but has a much steeper learning curve.
Can ArtCraft run models locally like ComfyUI?
Not today. ArtCraft generates through hosted models, paid with ArtCraft credits, your own API keys, or connected subscriptions. Its roadmap lists reducing dependence on hosted services as a goal. ComfyUI Desktop runs open models on your own GPU.
Is ComfyUI free?
ComfyUI Desktop is free and open source, but you need a capable GPU. Comfy Cloud, the hosted version, starts at $20 per month or $16 per month billed yearly. Proprietary models such as Nano Banana Pro run through Partner Nodes and use paid credits.
Which is better for AI video?
Both offer frontier video models. ArtCraft includes Seedance 2.0, Kling, Veo, Vidu, and MiniMax in one interface. ComfyUI covers open video models locally, such as Wan, plus proprietary models through Partner Nodes. ArtCraft is quicker to set up; ComfyUI is more customizable.
Can I use ArtCraft and ComfyUI together?
Yes. Many creators use ArtCraft to stage a scene and render the key frame, then use ComfyUI for specialized processing such as upscaling, style LoRAs, or batch pipelines.
