Frequently asked questions
What is ArtCraft?
ArtCraft is an open-source studio for AI image and video creation. Its makers call it the IDE for artists: you compose scenes in 2D and 3D, pose characters, and set the camera, then a model of your choice renders the result.
Who makes ArtCraft?
ArtCraft is developed by the ArtCraft team and open-source contributors. The code is published in the storytold/artcraft repository on GitHub, and the official contact address is on the storyteller.ai domain.
Is ArtCraft free?
The app is free to download and open source. AI generations cost money: you pay with ArtCraft credits (the Basic plan starts at $8 per month billed yearly at the time of writing), your own API keys, or existing subscriptions.
What can I make with ArtCraft?
Images, videos, music and sound effects, 3D meshes, and 3D worlds (Gaussian splats). The official catalog lists 62 models across these categories.
Which AI models does ArtCraft support?
Image models include Nano Banana, GPT Image, FLUX, and Seedream. Video models include Seedance, Kling, Veo, Sora, Vidu, MiniMax, and Flux 3. 3D models include Hunyuan 3D, Tripo3D, Meshy, and Rodin. Worlds come from Marble and TripoSplat, and audio from Suno and Seed Audio. Midjourney, Grok, Sora, and World Labs can be used through their own accounts.
Does ArtCraft run on Mac and Windows?
Yes. There is a universal macOS build for Apple Silicon and Intel, and x64 installers for Windows (.exe and .msi). There is also a web version at app.getartcraft.com.
Does ArtCraft run on Linux?
Not as a packaged app yet. Linux users can build and run it from source with Rust, Node.js 20 or newer, and the Tauri CLI. The official site says Linux support is coming.
Do I need a powerful GPU to use ArtCraft?
No. Generation runs on the model providers' servers, not on your computer. A reasonably modern machine is enough, though the 3D tools benefit from decent graphics performance.
Can I use my own API keys?
Yes. ArtCraft supports bring-your-own-key setups, including FAL API keys since the v0.32.0 beta. You can also log in with existing subscriptions to supported providers.
Is ArtCraft open source?
Yes. The desktop app's source code is on GitHub and dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, so you can use, modify, and redistribute it under those terms.
Is ArtCraft safe?
ArtCraft itself is a legitimate open-source project. To stay safe, download it only from getartcraft.com or the official GitHub releases page, and avoid cracked or unofficial builds.
Why did my generation fail?
Common causes are a model that is temporarily disabled, insufficient credits, an invalid or expired provider API key, or a prompt or image the provider's content policy rejects. Try another model, check your balance and keys, and simplify the input.
Why do my characters look different in every image?
Prompts alone rarely keep characters consistent. Use ArtCraft's character posing and identity transfer tools, and reuse the same reference image across generations.
How do I update ArtCraft?
Install the latest version from getartcraft.com or the GitHub releases page over your existing installation. Release pages include an updater archive used by the app.
Is ArtCraft Tips the official ArtCraft website?
No. ArtCraft Tips is an independent guide and is not affiliated with ArtCraft. The official website is getartcraft.com.
