Is ArtCraft Legit? A Safety Check and Official Links

ArtCraft is a real, open-source project with public code and regular releases. The main risk is downloading it from the wrong place. Here is how to stay safe.

With any newly popular AI app, two questions come up: is it real, and is it safe to install? For ArtCraft, the answer to the first is clearly yes. The answer to the second depends mainly on where you download it. Here is what we checked.

The short verdict

ArtCraft is a legitimate open-source project. Its code is public, it is permissively licensed, it ships regular releases, and its official domains are consistent. The realistic risks are fake download sites and unofficial "free unlimited" offers, not the app itself.

What makes ArtCraft credible

The code is public. The entire desktop app, a Rust and Tauri application, is on GitHub. Anyone can read what it does, and security researchers can audit it.

Permissive licensing. ArtCraft is dual-licensed under MIT or Apache-2.0, two of the most widely used open-source licenses.

A large community. The repository has more than 14,000 stars and over 2,000 forks at the time of writing, and the project dates back to 2022.

Regular releases. Versions are published on GitHub with consistently named installers for Windows (.exe, .msi) and macOS (universal .dmg). Recent releases include v0.37.0 and v0.41.0, both in September 2026.

A clear business model. The app is free, and ArtCraft charges for generation credits through its official pricing page. You can also bring your own API keys. There is no hidden catch in how it makes money.

How to avoid fake downloads

  1. Only download from getartcraft.com or github.com/storytold/artcraft/releases. Check the address bar carefully.
  2. Ignore "cracked", "premium unlocked", or "unlimited credits" versions. Credits are consumed on model providers' servers, so a modified app can't create free generations. These files are a common way to spread malware.
  3. Be wary of lookalike domains. Popular AI tools attract copycat sites that imitate the name. If a site asks you to pay for ArtCraft outside the official pricing page, leave.
  4. Check the file names. Official installers look like ArtCraft_0.41.0_universal.dmg, ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64-setup.exe, and ArtCraft_0.41.0_x64_en-US.msi.
  5. Let your OS protect you. If macOS Gatekeeper or Windows SmartScreen warns you, double-check where the file came from before you continue.

Heads up

Never enter your provider API keys or payment details into a site you reached through an ad or a search result you don't recognize. Go to the official domains directly.

Privacy considerations

ArtCraft sends your prompts and input images to whichever model provider you choose, because that is where generation happens. If you connect your own API key, requests go to that provider under its terms. If you use ArtCraft credits, they go through ArtCraft's service. Read the privacy terms of ArtCraft and of each model provider you use, especially for commercial or confidential work.
