How to Download and Install ArtCraft

Official download links, the right installer for your system, step-by-step setup for Windows and macOS, and what Linux users need to know.

ArtCraft ships in three ways: a desktop app for Windows and macOS, a web app that runs in your browser, and source code you can build yourself (the only option on Linux for now). This guide walks through each one and helps you pick the right file.

Which version should you use?

OptionBest forWhat you download
Web appTrying ArtCraft quickly, Chromebooks, locked-down work PCsNothing, open app.getartcraft.com
macOS desktopMac users who want the full desktop experienceUniversal .dmg (Apple Silicon and Intel)
Windows desktopWindows 10/11 PCs-setup.exe (recommended) or .msi
Build from sourceLinux users and developersClone the GitHub repository

The desktop app is built with Rust and Tauri, so the installers are relatively small and the app uses your system's web view rather than bundling a full browser.

Files are served directly by GitHub from the official storytold/artcraft release page. This list refreshes automatically once a day.

Tip

Release pages also include a file named ArtCraft_universal.app.tar.gz. It is used by the app's updater, so you don't need to download it yourself.

Install ArtCraft on macOS

  1. Download the universal .dmg

Get the .dmg file from getartcraft.com or from the latest GitHub release. The same file works on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

  2. Move ArtCraft to Applications

Open the .dmg and drag the ArtCraft icon into your Applications folder, then eject the disk image.

  3. Launch the app

Open ArtCraft from Applications or Launchpad. If macOS blocks the first launch, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and choose Open Anyway. Only do this for files you downloaded from the official sources listed above.

  4. Sign in or connect a provider

Sign in with an ArtCraft account to use credits, or connect your own provider API keys or existing subscriptions. See how ArtCraft pricing works for the options.

Install ArtCraft on Windows

  1. Pick an installer

Download ArtCraft_x.y.z_x64-setup.exe for a normal installation. The .msi package contains the same app and is meant for administrators who deploy software with Windows Installer tools.

  2. Run the installer

Double-click the file and follow the setup wizard. If Windows SmartScreen shows a warning for a new download, check that the file came from getartcraft.com or github.com/storytold/artcraft before continuing.

  3. Open ArtCraft and sign in

Launch ArtCraft from the Start menu, then sign in or connect your provider keys.

The official Windows builds are for 64-bit (x64) PCs.

Run ArtCraft on Linux (build from source)

There is no prebuilt Linux package at the time of writing. The developer setup guide explains how to run it from source. In short, you need:

  • Rust, installed with rustup
  • Node.js 20 or newer (the guide notes that v24.13.0 works)
  • Tauri CLI 2.x (the guide mentions tauri-cli 2.10.0)
  • The usual Tauri system prerequisites for Linux, such as WebKitGTK

Then clone the repository and start the combined launcher:

git clone https://github.com/storytold/artcraft.git
cd artcraft
./script/artcraft/unix_dev.sh

The launcher installs the frontend dependencies, starts the Vite dev server on a free port (starting at 5193), and then starts the Tauri app. This runs ArtCraft in development mode, so expect a long first Rust compile.

Note

The official site says Linux and tablet support is coming. Check the GitHub releases page from time to time for a native Linux build.

Use the web app instead

If you don't want to install anything, open app.getartcraft.com. The web version starts with a simple question, "What will you craft today?", and offers tools for image, video, audio, 3D objects, and 3D worlds. It is a good way to test ArtCraft before committing to the desktop app.

System requirements

ArtCraft does not publish a detailed hardware requirements list. Image and video generation runs on the model providers' servers, not on your computer, so you don't need a high-end GPU just to generate. A reasonably modern machine helps with the 3D stage and compositing tools, and you need a stable internet connection for every generation.

Updating ArtCraft

New versions are published regularly on the GitHub releases page; v0.37.0 and v0.41.0 both shipped in September 2026. If your copy doesn't update itself, download the latest installer from the same official page and install it over the old version.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the official ArtCraft download?

Stable builds are linked from getartcraft.com, and every release is also published on the GitHub releases page of the storytold/artcraft repository. Avoid third-party mirrors.

Should I pick the .exe or the .msi installer on Windows?

Most people should use the -setup.exe installer. The .msi package is the same app in Windows Installer format, which is mainly useful for IT-managed or scripted deployments.

Does ArtCraft work on Apple Silicon Macs?

Yes. The macOS download is a universal .dmg that runs natively on both Apple Silicon (M-series) and Intel Macs.

Is there a Linux version of ArtCraft?

Not as a prebuilt package yet. Linux users can build and run ArtCraft from source with Rust, Node.js, and the Tauri CLI, following the developer setup guide in the repository.

Can I use ArtCraft without installing it?

Yes. The web version at app.getartcraft.com runs in a modern browser and offers image, video, audio, 3D object, and 3D world tools.
