ArtCraft Image Editing Prompts

Prompts for changing an image you already have. The key to good edits is saying both what should change and what must stay the same.

Background replacement

Keep the person, their pose, clothing, and the framing exactly the same. Replace the background with a quiet rainy street at night with neon shop signs. Match the lighting and reflections on the person to the new scene.

Tip
If the subject changes too, remove the background first and composite the cutout in 2D.

Relighting

Keep everything in the image the same, but change the lighting to golden hour sunlight coming from the left, with long warm shadows and a soft orange glow on the faces.

Tip
Describe the light direction explicitly: left, right, behind, or overhead.

Style transfer

Redraw this exact scene as a watercolor illustration with loose brush strokes and visible paper texture. Keep the composition, characters, and their positions unchanged.

Tip
Naming one specific medium works better than stacking several style words.

Object removal

Remove the parked car on the right side of the image and fill the area with the sidewalk and storefront that would naturally be behind it. Do not change anything else.

Tip
For precise removals, paint a mask on the canvas and inpaint only that area.

Change clothing

Keep the person's face, hair, pose, and the background identical. Change their outfit to a tailored navy suit with a white shirt and no tie.

Tip
Listing what to keep (face, hair, pose) reduces identity drift.

Season change

Turn this summer landscape into a winter scene: snow on the ground and trees, a frozen lake, overcast sky, and cold blue light. Keep the camera angle and the shape of the land the same.

Tip
Large environmental changes work best when the camera and composition are locked in the prompt.

Add an element

Add a small orange cat sitting on the windowsill on the left, looking outside. Match the existing lighting and perspective. Keep the rest of the room unchanged.

Tip
Give the new element a location and a direction it faces.

Expression change

Keep the person and the scene exactly the same, but change their expression to a warm, genuine smile with slightly squinted eyes.

Tip
Small, single changes per edit keep faces consistent. Chain several edits instead of one big one.
