How to Fix Failed Generations in ArtCraft

Most failed generations come down to a handful of causes. Work through this checklist from top to bottom.

A generation that fails, hangs, or comes back empty is frustrating, especially when credits are involved. The good news is that most failures have a short list of causes. Work through this checklist from top to bottom; each step rules out one cause.

1. Check whether the model is available

ArtCraft's model catalog changes from release to release. The official README marks some models as disabled (temporarily switched off) and others as restricted (not available in the desktop app). At the time of writing, several Kling, Veo, and Sora models are disabled.

Check the live status on our model catalog page, which syncs with the README daily. If your model is disabled, choose another model in the same family. For example, use Kling 2.6 Pro instead of Kling 3.0 Pro, or Veo 3.1 instead of Veo 3.

2. Check credits and plan

Video models use credits quickly. On the Basic plan, the official estimate is about 63 seconds of Seedance 2.0 per 1,000 credits. If your balance is low, a long video request can fail outright. (ArtCraft's own API returns a "402 Payment required" error in this situation, which suggests the app hits the same limit.)

  • Check your remaining credits before a big batch.
  • Try a short, cheap image generation to confirm the account works.
  • See the pricing guide for what each plan includes.

3. Reconnect provider accounts

If you connected your own accounts, such as Grok, Midjourney, Sora, or World Labs, generations on those models depend on that account. Failures can come from:

  • an expired login or revoked access,
  • a subscription that lapsed or hit its usage cap,
  • the provider changing its service.

Sign out of the provider inside ArtCraft and connect it again. If the problem continues, test the same model through ArtCraft credits to see whether the issue is the provider account.

4. Rule out content filters

Every model provider runs its own safety filters. Prompts or reference images involving real public figures, violence, nudity, or trademarked characters are commonly rejected. A filter rejection can look like a generic failure.

  • Remove names of real people and brands from the prompt.
  • Try a different reference image.
  • Try a different model; filters vary by provider.

5. Check your input files

Reference images, videos, and audio must be in formats the model accepts. ArtCraft's API documentation spells out the rules, which are a useful guide for the app as well:

  • Images: real JPEG, PNG, GIF, or WebP files. A renamed file with the wrong extension will be rejected.
  • Reference videos: MP4. A WebM file is rejected.
  • Reference audio: common formats such as WAV, MP3, AAC, OGG, and FLAC.

Very large or very long files can also fail. Trim videos to the part you need and export images at a sensible resolution.

6. Update ArtCraft

ArtCraft ships updates frequently, and fixes for model integrations often arrive in new releases. Check your version against the latest one on the changelog, and install the newest build from the download page if you are behind.

7. Don't retry blindly

If a job seems stuck, check your generation history before clicking generate again. Some jobs take minutes, especially video on premium models. Retrying too early can queue a duplicate job and spend credits twice.

Still failing? Report it

ArtCraft is open source, so bugs are tracked publicly on GitHub. Before opening an issue, search for existing reports, then include:

  • your ArtCraft version and operating system (macOS, Windows, or web),
  • the model and tool you used,
  • what you expected and what happened,
  • any error message, with screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my ArtCraft generation keep failing?

The most common causes are a model that is currently disabled, insufficient credits, a disconnected or expired provider account, a prompt or image rejected by the provider's content policy, and an unsupported input file. Try a different model first, since that isolates the problem fastest.

Do I lose credits when a generation fails?

ArtCraft does not publish a refund policy for failed generations. If credits were deducted for a job that produced nothing, contact ArtCraft support through getartcraft.com.

Where can I report an ArtCraft bug?

ArtCraft is open source, so you can search and open issues on the storytold/artcraft GitHub repository. Include your app version, operating system, the model you used, and what happened.
